Two hundred and fifty people came to the start line of the Fair Haven 5th Annual Run for Hospice of the Finger Lakes. The race has grown and raised more money for Hospice every year, with race proceeds of $3,100 donated this year.
The overall winner of this year’s race is Alan Powers, coming in with a time of 17:16. The next three men to finish were Tim Dwyer, Brandon Lewis and David Eggleton. The first three women to finish were Julie Weber, Jody Bergstrom and Kelly Reese. Jack Hughes came in first in the Under 16 category and Alan Howe won the Over 65 category. An award of Special Recognition was given to The Auer Family, approximately 40 strong and decked out in matching blue shirts for the race labeled “Team Nana.”
This race would not be possible without the help of the several volunteers who helped with traffic control, water tables, registration, timing, etc., along with our generous sponsors, HAM radio operators, and the Fair Haven ambulance crew. Many thanks to all who participated, volunteered, sponsored, donated door prizes and were involved in any way.
This year’s Gold Sponsors were Towpath Machine Corp. and Hanford Construction. Additional sponsorship came from Fair Haven Chamber of Commerce, Landmark Properties, Taubman Enterprise Consulting, Chengerian’s Tree Land, Popeye Charters, Meadow Creek Mobile Home Community, O’Connors Main Street Pub and the Auer Family. Door prizes were donated by Sterling Renaissance Festival, Pleasant Beach Hotel, Fair Haven Gift Shop and Screwy Louie’s. Ontario Orchards and Heluva Good Cheese provided nutritious snacks for the participants at the finish line.
